June 15th is the Day of the Composer. New music from top composers and musicians can be heard at various stations and in train carriages.
The Day of the Composer opens in the morning at 8:30 AM at Amsterdam Central Station on the IJboulevard. You can listen to a brand-new composition by the Composer of the Fatherland, Anne-Maartje Lemereis, as well as the fresh city song by Yannis Kyriakides, who has been appointed the City Composer of Amsterdam for the occasion. Sebastiaan Kemner (trombone), Aurélie Nyirabikali Lierman, and Claudio Jacomucci will perform these works, along with other miniatures for the Holland Festival.
Additionally, the duo Rob Dirksen (double bass) and Frank Brakkee (viola) will play two pieces specially written for this occasion by Rob Dirksen and Sylvia Masessen. The Orkaan Ensemble will perform works by Lemereis, Takahashi, and Kamperman. The station concert concludes with Gamelan Processional Music by composers Sinta Wullur, Maarten Bauer, Hinse Mutter, and Krishna Sutedja.
The station concert at our station is free to attend. More information about the program in Amsterdam can be found on the website of NewMusicNow.nl.
