Development

The surrounding area of the station is still under development. Work is in progress on the new bus platform and bicycle storage on the KJ-plein.

Bus platform

A renewed bus platform is the next step in refurbishing the city entrance in the area around The Hague Central. The platform will be redesigned and given a new roof. The layout of the bus platform will be clearer and the walking routes shorter. The number of platforms will be expanded. The platform will be given a wavy new roof. As a result, travelers always get in and out dry. There will also be a “pavilion” with facilities for bus drivers. The boarding stops run a quarter of a turn compared to the current situation and are just in front of the waiting area. Travelers can see the front of the buses from the waiting area in the station hall. Travelers receive customized information about line number, direction and departure times via digital screens. The traveler only crosses to the boarding platform when the bus is announced on the screen. The bus then runs to the boarding platform within a short time. The stops are on the Anna van Buerenstraat side. There will be separate platforms for the buses that will have to wait for some time before the next trip starts.

KJ Square underground bicycle parking

An underground bicycle parking facility is built at The Hague Central Station. The facility will storage 8,500 bicycles. Cyclists will soon have a direct connection to the extensive public transport network and good facilities via this bike parking facility. The construction of the bicycle parking started in 2017 and is expected to be delivered at the end of 2019. However, the bicycle parking can only be put into operation once the 1st floors of the buildings on Koningin Julianplein are ready. These floors then protect the entrances to the bicycle shed against falling building material.

The bicycle parking facility is being built for the municipality and has been made possible in part by subsidies from the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment and the Rotterdam The Hague Metropolitan Area.
