On August 26, 2013, the largest LED screen in Europe was inaugurated in the station hall of Rotterdam Central Station: 40 meters wide, 4.5 meters high, weighing 8,000 kilos, and featuring over 5 million LED lights. This gift from the Port of Rotterdam Authority to Rotterdam for its 80th anniversary shows impressive images of the port, allowing travelers to experience the global harbor city. The screen displays no advertisements or promotions; only images of the port. The films cover various themes such as customs, dry bulk, trains, cranes, tugboats, pilots, recreation, oil, containers, and nature.
The screen was specially designed for Rotterdam Central and is integrated into the architecture. It consists of five sections and presents a silent, poetic image of the port’s dynamic. It offers an impressive panoramic view of the largest port in Europe, closely connected with Rotterdam as a World Harbor City.
