The Hague Forest

The Hague Central Station is located directly next to the Haagse Bos, which translates to 'The Hague Forest'. You only need to cross the street, and you'll find yourself entering the forest. The name, Bezuidenhoutseweg, also refers to the forest, as the Haagse Bos used to be called "de Houte."

The forest area around The Hague Central Station is now fragmented into small pieces, but it was once part of a large primeval forest that stretched along the coast up to Alkmaar. In and around these forests are various estates with large gardens, where you can find exotic bulbous plants.

Additionally, many species of birds and both small and large animals inhabit the area. For instance, you can see deer right after exiting the station, as the former estate De Koekamp, featuring a large deer park, is located directly opposite the station.
